Gordon Ramsay, Padma Lakshmi on Product Placement

“It’s hard to make that shit sound natural.” – Padma Lakshmi.

Trust me. It doesn’t.

For years, Padma Lakshmi has mentioned on Top Chef that a prize is furnished by Reynolds Wrap or that prize was a car. So what?

Then, out of nowhere, it got a little out of hand. Contestants were talking about how they needed to hop into the new Ford Whatever to go to Whole Foods, and would then gush over how spacious the vehicle was and how it handles on the road. The Onion even made a parody video of Top Chef’s product placement adventures, which I posted last week.

Over on Fox’s MasterChef, the judges and contestants are pissing themselves over the “quality” of their Walmart products, and how they always shop there for the finest and freshest groceries. Yeah. Sure you do.

It’s a necessary evil for most show or movies, but it’s nice to see Gordon and Padma at least opening up about it. Click out the video below for The Hollywood Reporter’s Reality Roundtable. The video is just a few minutes, but if you like it, I highly recommend the whole discussion.
