All of your daily calories, in one delicious sandwich.
A few weeks ago, the future Mrs. Food Chain and I met for dinner at Champps’s for dinner post-Christmas shopping. While perusing the menu, I came across the “Grown Up Grilled Cheese,” a sandwich packed with Canadian bacon, bacon, cheddar cheese, American cheese and the final piece of the puzzle: a fried egg.
Because I’d eaten enough throughout the day and because we had an appetizer, I passed on the grilled cheese, but with a mission: make this sandwich.
Recipe based on Champps Sport Bar
2 slices bread
2 slices American cheese
2 slices cheddar cheese
2 slices Canadian bacon
2 slices bacon
2 slices tomato
salt and pepper
It’s a grilled cheese. This is simple stuff, but you need to be gentle with this one. Fry your egg to your liking. I like mine sunny side up because runny eggs are the best.
Make sure your bacons are cooked, then start assembling your sandwich on two slices of buttered bread*: cheese, bacons, tomato, cooked egg, cheese and the other bread. Be very careful cooking the sandwich because if you apply too much pressure on it, as one tends to do, the egg will asplode.
*To save calories, and that’s a good idea with this one, use a calorie-free butter spray at every turn.
That’s it. For messy sexiness, cut the sandwich in half right along where the yolk is so it explodes all over the place.
